Finished!............... from Exuberant Color

I didn't want to deal with keeping pink checks or plaid straight for binding so I used the gray one that had enough yardage.  This flannel baby quilt is 32" x 40".

This little quilt has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it.  I used white thread to quilt it on my Pfaff 7570.

This pile of mail that I have received in 9 days is
19 solicitations for money.  There is even 2 from each of 2 organizations, like I didn't react soon enough so I need a 'reminder'.  Obviously some charity sold my address to some data ...

Machine quilting again.................. from Exuberant Color

The machine ditch quilting is done on this flannel baby quilt now.  The squares are 4" and that is the recommended maximum space with Hobbs 80/20 batting.

The backing is a cute diagonal plaid.  I haven't decided on binding yet but will look for it today.

It's going to be cold over the weekend so I'm glad I don't have anywhere to go.

A little bit of everything................. from Exuberant Color

I had a few things to take care of in the basement so while I was down there I got this little quilt ready for basting.  It didn't keep my interest though so I moved on.

My friend who visited on Monday wanted to buy some black and white batik fabrics for this quilt.  I had the fabrics in 2 bins and had large and small pieces all mixed together.

I want to sort through them now and get all of the small pieces in one bin and large pieces in the other bin.  There is a lot more ...

Time to get busy................. from Exuberant Color

I really didn't do much yesterday other than look through things.  I found this stack of 8.5" squares, 87 of them.  They are flannel, corduroy, homespuns, and denim cut from old jeans.  In December 2011 I made 2 quilts with similar fabrics for 2 great-nephews who would graduate from high school soon.  This link takes you to one of them.  Scroll down in this post to see the other one.  I think most of the pieces in this pile were cut within a few months of making those 2 quilts.  If I cut one more square I could ...

Finish #6 for December 2025........................ from Exuberant Color

I started the day yesterday making 3 batches of Chex Mix to take to the family party tonight.  Late in the afternoon I worked on the quilting of this flannel tumbler baby quilt and finished the quilting last night.  It is 39" square.

This photo is a little dark and I didn't have any luck trying to lighten it.  The binding is the same fabric as the backing.

This is closer to the true color of the backing flannel.  I used Hobbs 80/20 batting in the quilt.

Now I have 3 little flannel quilts made.  I may be ...

Merry Christmas................. from Exuberant Color

No white Christmas this year, and I'm thankful for that.  We had our white right after Thanksgiving instead this year.

In yesterday's mail there was a Christmas card from my talented friend, Linda Swanekamp.  She not only makes quilts, she also paints.  I love the warm glow behind the tree.

I got the basting done on this little quilt late yesterday afternoon and started the quilting last night.  I quilted in the ditch crosswise on the quilt and am quilting a presser foot width away from the seams in the other direction.

Both packages of treats reached my ...

Finish #5 for December 2025 from Exuberant Color

The binding was cut yesterday afternoon and last night I sewed it on, finished by machine.  This little quilt is 30" x 39.25".  It is flannel and in the Bullseye Log Cabin pattern.  It has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it and I quilted it on my Pfaff.

It took only a one yard piece of flannel for the back of the quilt.  The binding is a medium tan, darker than the light fabrics and lighter than the dark fabrics.

It was so dark yesterday morning that I had to move this cactus plant to the bathroom to take ...

Quilting finished................ from Exuberant Color

I wasn't sure this one was going to bloom.  It was a bud for more than 3 weeks.  This pot is on my kitchen windowsill, west exposure.

Since I am only a little over 5' I am looking across at this pot when I'm standing at the sink.  I kept thinking this pot had 4 pieces that had broken off my pale pink cactus plant, but when I looked closer it is just 2 pieces.

I did have one more thing to bake yesterday and then PT in the afternoon.  Last night I finished the quilting on this ...

Baking first, sewing last...................... from Exuberant Color

I started the day yesterday baking the other Kringlas, different than the ones I baked last week.  The dough was refrigerated overnight.

Next I baked the pink Spritz.  It was a relief to have my oven fixed to bake these.  I did the previous batch that were for my son's customers last week in the little countertop electric oven and it was tricky getting them out before they got too dark.

A little later in the day I baked the chocolate spritz.  After that I made one more batch of fudge.  Now I have enough of everything to mail ...

Bright and soft...................... from Exuberant Color

The binding is finished on this medallion quilt and full photos and stats will be on tomorrow's post.  The repairman was supposed to come between 2 and 4 yesterday and he got here at 5.  By 6:30 he had the oven and the dryer both working normally.

While waiting for him to arrive, I pressed all 10 flannel pieces and cut the squares.  Last night I got the top sewn together.  It is 32" x 40" so a 1 yard piece will be enough for a backing.

Jack Frost only did a little painting on my kitchen windows ...

Quilt trimmed, table piece finished................. from Exuberant Color

Another quilt is back from my longarm friend Robin.  I got it trimmed yesterday afternoon.

Since I needed to turn on the iron, I also pressed the binding fabric and cut the 7 strips needed.  It is Kaffe's Woodear fabric.

I also cut the binding strips for my Christmas table runner and got it sewn on and since it is for me, I hand finished the binding.  It is 14.75" x 34.5".

I also finished the second dishcloth from this color ball of yarn.  15 dishcloths have left my home since the beginning of November so I ...

Busy day.................. from Exuberant Color

I decided to do two loads of laundry yesterday so while I was in the basement I was looking through all of my flannel fabric.  I had something specific in mind which I haven't found yet.  When I saw the leftover pink with bears I decided to pull all of the others that would go with it for a baby girl quilt.  I think I'll use the diagonal plaid on the back but there might be a little of it that I can use on the front, depending on the size quilt I make.  If I keep it ...

Last minute November finishes and more...................... from Exuberant Color

There is nothing better than an all day sewing day.  It was too cold to go anywhere.

This top is finally finished other than a little trimming of the bottom edge.  It ended up at 49.5" x 71".  There are 2 Martha Negley fabrics in it and the rest are all Kaffe Fassett Collective.

I determined a final layout and got this flannel baby quilt top sewn together too.  When I was putting the blocks up on the  design wall, I realized the bottom left block was shorter than the rest.  Evidently 2 of the light strips were 1 ...

All blocks.................... from Exuberant Color

Yesterday morning I got all of the strippy blocks up on the design wall.  I think I might have moved 2 of the blocks after this photo was taken.

I decided to sew the columns I'm happy with so the three at the left are sewn, but not sewn to each other.  I need to do more playing with the insertion strips.  I don't like the grouping of the strippy block columns right now, 3, 2, 3, and 2.  After I sew some columns I can move them around and also move the narrow strips to new locations ...

Flannel............. from Exuberant Color

Standing at the design wall didn't sound appealing to me yesterday so I got 2 boxes of flannel pieces off a shelf in my studio.

I decided bullseye blocks was a nice mindless project.  They will probably be made into a baby quilt.

They haven't had their final press yet so they look a little crooked.  Some of them used a variety of short pieces and others were just 3 fabrics for the whole block.

I still have tomatoes ripening in the garage.  A lot of them are golf ball size or smaller but they taste great, better ...

3 quilt tops................... from Exuberant Color

I finally turned on the iron and got all three quilt tops pressed and measured.  Then I staystitched around the perimeter of this 16 patch made of Nancy Crow fabric.  This photo was taken with my Canon camera and is the closest to the real color.  My previous photos were too light.  This one is 64" x 80".

I am so happy these simple borders worked so effectively to make this medallion into a rectangular shape.  It is 61" x 81".  It is now a shape to cover a body.  No one will ever convince me that a 61" square ...

Borders, sewn top................... from Exuberant Color

Thanks to a friend I decided on borders on a medallion quilt made 9 years ago.  I was stuck at 61" square and wanted it to become rectangular.  The borders are sewn on the top and bottom.  Here is the top and the inspiration for it.

Last night I finished sewing the flannel tumbler quilt top.  Now I have 3 quilt tops to press so maybe I'll turn on the iron today.

A friend started blogging again so check her out.  She mentions me in this post from yesterday.

A different project............... from Exuberant Color

After grocery shopping and putting everything away, I wasn't in the mood to turn on the iron and press the quilt top....so I started a new project.  A while back I showed all of the precut flannel pieces I had and I decided to make another baby quilt with the 4" tumblers.  This is just rows pinned to the design wall.  I'll decide if I want to move any of the rows to a different position and then sew them together.  This one should finish around 40" x 40".

There were 257 tumblers (cut with my die ...

Counting pieces................... from Exuberant Color

There wasn't time yesterday to sew on any project so I counted pieces of flannel, both pieced and cut.  This pile is 35 flannel 16 patches.  I need to make 28 more blocks for a decent throw size quilt, or mix these with some of the pieces in the following photos.

There were several boxes of cut pieces.  In this one there are 53 of the 4.5" x 8.5" rectangles, 45 of the 4.5" squares, and I didn't count the strips since there are only a few of them.

A lot of my flannel quilts ...

Checking out an idea................... from Exuberant Color

This is the idea I had for the Kaffe rectangles and Brandon Mably's Gameboard fabric.  I have seen this done with different dimensions for the pieces and I think longer rectangles might look better, but this is what I have already cut, so I need to use it.  I only got 110 B&W squares out of the yard of fabric that I had.  I had figured I needed 150 for a quilt 54" x 75".  I have another of his black and white fabrics called Chips that I could possible mix into the outside edge blocks.  These pieces ...
